Colorado Lagoon 2011

On February 11, members of the AP Environmental Science class traveled to Colorado Lagoon for ecological sampling and studying nature for the day.  Comparisons were made with last year's trip and the native plants we helped place in the banks have grown tremendously.  The restoration efforts by the city of Long Beach and the Friends of Colorado Lagoon have significantly cleaned up the water, lessened the trash and increased the flow of tides from Alamitos Bay.  The number of species and their population numbers were much greater this year - it was a joy to be outdoors and everyone pitched in, including donning hip-waders and digging quadrats in the mud.  They were outstanding scientists!
