Loving the Panther Life

As Jordan's English Learner Coordinator, I serve both students and teachers. Students who need extra support to be successful may come to receive tutoring during their unscheduled periods. In collaboration with our ELD teacher, the English Department teachers, and other staff, I assist to assure students have the proper linguistic supports for academic and social success. We have a student club called EL Poder that I sponsor, which meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month to socialize and role-play how to ask for help appropriately. I also serve as a resource to parents, teachers and administrators.

I have been with LBUSD for 24 years in a variety of roles; by far, this assignment is the most rewarding and enjoyable. Before working for Long Beach, I taught in Humboldt County. I have a double major in History and Spanish from Stanford University and a Master's degree from Cal State Long Beach. While an undergraduate, I used my scholarship to study History as well as to attend a study abroad program in Salamanca, Spain. Now I live in Long Beach where my husband and I raised our two sons. They are proud products of Long Beach Unified Schools.
