Course Summary Description: Students in Grade 10th study major turning points that shaped the modern world, from the late eighteen century through the present, including the cause and course of the two world wars. Students develop an understanding of current world issues and relate them to their historical, geographic, political, economic, and cultural contexts.  Students consider multiple accounts of events in order to understand international relations for a variety of perspectives.



Course Objectives: Students will:


  1. Relate the moral and ethical principals in ancient Greek and Roman philosophy.
  2.  Consider the influence of the U. S. Constitution on political system in the world.
  3. Analyze the effects of the Industrial Revolution in England, France, Germany, Japan, and the United States.
  4. Student analyzes the effects of the First World War.
  5. Analyze the causes and consequences of World War II.
  6. Discuss the human cost of different wars.
  7. Analyze the effects of the Spanish Conquest of America.
  8. Students evaluate the cause and effect of historical events.

    10.)   Use critical thinking and relate ideas in students own words verbally and written.

 Evaluation Procedure    

Grading Scale:  Each student is evaluated based on the satisfactory completion of daily assignments, worksheets, quizzes, participation charts points and tests.



100 - 97  = A+

82  -  80  = B-

65  -  63  = D+

96  -  94  = A

79  -  76  = C+

62  -  60  = D-

93  -  90  = A-

75  -  73  = C

59  or below  =  F

89  -  86  = B+

72  -  70  = C-


85  -  83  = B

69  -  66  = D+



Homework:  Only given when a student has been absent or is unable to complete the assignment in class.            Daily: Fun / Sponge Activities when assigned.

Late Work:   I will work with each student and make adjustments according to behavior, attendance and work completion. This is a teacher’s decision ONLY!

 Pencil Point’s Chart – each student will earn one point each day for bringing a pencil. 

Participation Point’s Chart- each student will earn two points each day for following directives given by the teacher and for good behavior. Points will be deducted by the teacher ONLY!  Both charts are kept in their classroom binders, in the classroom.

Assignment Records: Students will list all work to be graded and averaged for a passing or failing grade, 2-3 grades given each week

Tests and Quizzes:   Final Exam(others to be determined, but will not be required every week)

Projects:  One each Semester(to be determined)

Extra Credit:  Two helpers will be assigned in each class as a student helper for the teacher and will be awarded 1-2 Community Service hours, per week, for doing the work requested or assigned by the teacher.  This will be given to a student forONLY one time per semester. A student can earn up to 16 hours per semester.
