Cross Country the 1970s

The 1970s were a time of change for Jordan Cross Country; there were new coaches, girls teams were added, the race distance was changed to three miles, and the home course was moved from Houghton Park to DeForest Park.  During this decade Jordan won their first and last Moore League Varsity championship.   If you were a member of one of the teams of the 70s please drop me a note at bwelsch@lbschools.net and let me know where you are.  The slide  show below has over 50 pictures from the decade enjoy.

Coaches

During the 70s Jordan had 5 different boys and girls Cross Country coaches, they were Don Zimmerman, Hartzell Alpizar, Jim Keck, Terry Murphy, and Barry Welsch.

Selecting a top ten boys list for the 1970s is difficult because this was the transition decade from two miles to three miles.  That being said here is the Top Ten for the 1970s in alphabetical order.
